PHS INFO

October 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians of 11th Graders:

We are writing to inform you of the upcoming Ohio state-funded ACT assessment and to provide you with the option to opt your child out of this exam. The ACT is given to all 11th-grade students, including those who attend the Upper Valley Career Center.  The ACT will be administered at Piqua High School on February 25, 2025, at 7:30 am. There is no cost for taking the ACT.

The ACT assessment covers reading, language, mathematics, and science and is completed in approximately four hours. Typically taken by students who plan to attend college, the ACT assessment may also impact the College Readiness graduation seal, graduation pathways, valedictorian and salutatorian selections, college acceptance and scholarships, and earning an Honors diploma.

However, we understand this may only be the path for some students. If you believe the ACT does not align with your child's future goals, you may opt your student out of the ACT assessment.  Students who opt out: Piqua HS attendees will participate in a virtual learning day at home, UVCC attendees will attend the UVCC as normal.

Please note that the opt-out deadline is December 1, 2024.

If you choose to opt your child out, please complete the attached form and return it to your child's school by the deadline. Any student who does not choose to opt out of the ACT will be expected to take the assessment on February 25, 2025.

For more information about the ACT and the opt-out process, please contact Scott Bloom, Curriculum Director, at [email protected]. You may also contact Scott Bloom at (937) 773-4321.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.

Sincerely,

Rob Messick

End of Course Testing

Piqua High School Students & Families,

How do you know which State Exams you are taking?  You only test in the subjects listed below that you are currently enrolled in.  Which means if the class is on your schedule you are taking that exam.

Please bring your school assigned Chromebook with you on each test day.

    Testing dates are as follows:

Tuesday April 5:  English 10 Part I

Wednesday April 6: English 10 Part II

Wednesday April 20:  Biology Part I

Thursday April 21 : Biology Part II

Tuesday April 26: U.S. Studies Part I & Government Part I

Wednesday April 27: U.S. Studies Part II & Government Part II

Tuesday May 3: Algebra Part I & Geometry Part I

Wednesday May 4: Algebra Part II & Geometry Part II

School staff will continue to remind students about their test date(s).  It is possible that some students will take up to 4 exams, and some students may not take any.

On testing days, students that are not testing will have a 2-hour delay.  Students that are testing will need to be at school at normal start time on test day(s).  Piqua City Schools bus routes will be on normal route time each day.  Therefore, non-testing students will need to arrange transportation if they choose to not ride the bus to school.  Non test-taking students that ride the bus to school on test days will be supervised by school staff in the school cafeteria until the regular school day begins.

Please call the high school office with any questions.
