PIQUA CITY SCHOOLS PRINCIPAL RECEIVES AWARD

Columbus, OH – The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators has announced the winner for the OAESA 2011 Distinguished Principal Award.  Teresa A. Anderson, Principal of Nicklin Learning Center has been named the OAESA 2011 Distinguished Elementary Principal.

“Teresa was nominated and selected by fellow principals through a statewide search process conducted by the OAESA,” said Dr. Julie Davis, Executive Director of the Association.  She exemplifies the best in school leadership.  No other profession in the nation exerts a greater influence on children.  The destiny of every student is tied to his or her principal’s ability to lead effectively and to provide students with the best education possible.  In the midst of these times, I have found that most educators view their profession as a calling.  She goes above and beyond, each and every day, for the students entrusted into her care.  Teresa is an exemplar representing the thousands of hard-working principals across Ohio.”

Teresa graduated from Wittenberg University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and obtained her Master’s Degree of Science in Education and principal’s certification from the University of Dayton.  She has served as the Principal of the Nicklin Learning Center since 1998.  Previously, she taught in both Piqua City Schools and Fairlawn Local Schools.

In October, Teresa will travel to Washington D.C. for two days of activities planned to honor and bring well-deserved recognition to principals from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  “Criteria for selection of the Distinguished Principal, set by OAESA, NAESP, and the United States Department of Education, requires the honorees be selected by their colleagues for achievements above and beyond those expected in the usual school program,” Davis said.  In addition, each must have been a principal for five years, maintain high expectations of students and staff, show evidence of outstanding contributions to school and profession, and be an established, well-respected member of the community.

The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators has served Ohio’s elementary and middle school principals since 1974 and now represents over 2,000 administrators throughout the state.  OAESA maintains close ties with the metropolitan Washington-based National Association of Elementary School Principals and its 23,000 members nationwide.

Congratulations to Teresa Anderson, 2011 OESA Distinguished Elementary Principal!
