PIQUA CITY SCHOOLS ANNOUNCES 2011-2012 TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Sandy Jones, First Grade Teacher at Favorite Hill Primary School has been named the 2011-2012 Piqua City Schools Teacher of the Year!  Sandy was presented the title at 12:15 p.m. on May 5, 2011 by Superintendent Rick Hanes and 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year Sandie Cox.

Nominated by her peers, Sandy has been a consistent advocate for students and their families.   In their nomination, “it is time to honor this precious gem and her contributions to Piqua students, teachers and the community!”  In her own words… “As a graduate of the Piqua City Schools, I can only hope that I, as a teacher, am giving to my students what my teachers gave to me… the chance to grow and learn in a loving and caring atmosphere where individualism is truly accepted as well as encouraged.  I truly believe that the love of learning was instilled in me from the first day of Kindergarten and continues to grow throughout my educational career!”

Sandy, a 1978 Piqua Central graduate, was hired by the Piqua City School District in August of 1985.  She has been a first grade teacher at South Street Elementary and Favorite Hill Primary Schools.  She has also served as Grade Level Chair, Mentor Teacher, LPDC Secretary and Chair, Student Council Advisor and Summer School Teacher as well as a volunteer on numerous school and community committees.

Congratulations to Sandy Jones, 2011-2012 PCS Teacher of the Year!
