Update - March 18, 2020
Piqua City Schools Parents and Students,

I hope you are all doing well considering these unique times.  Whereas we have never seen anything like this, I am confident in our district’s abilities to continue to be an important part of our students’ lives as well as our community.  Please know that I will try to be very intentional with all communication of facts because I know that you, our students, and our community at large depend on what is being shared to plan and move forward.  I also appreciate everyone’s patience as each day offers a new challenge as well as many new announcements from the national and state arenas that affect our public schools.  We will do our best to deal with new announcements as they are released.

The Governor’s closure of public schools the night before our spring break did not give us much time to be prepared or distribute materials, but having spring break has allowed us to get an instructional plan together.  Our plan is as follows:

Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24 will be used for teachers to plan lessons and material distribution when they return from spring break.  Depending on the teacher and grade level, there may be a combination of online instruction as well as packets of activities that will be available to parents.

Computer Access:

If you have a computer at home that is fantastic – you’re all set!  If you do not have a computer at home and need one for your child to use while we are closed, Piqua City Schools can help.  Computer pick-up will take place this Friday, March 20 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM or Monday, March 23 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. at our most central location - Piqua Central Intermediate School.  The pick-up location at PCIS will be in the back of the school off of Camp Street.  We are asking that parents drive into the backlot area as shown in the image below.  Please do not get out of your car.  Someone will hand you a sanitized computer and you can exit the same way you entered the backlot area.

Internet Access:

If you do not have Internet, we have been given the following information from Spectrum:  Spectrum will offer broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.

Assignment Access:

As stated earlier, some teachers will use a combination of online instruction as well as packets of activities.  Based on the Governor’s recommendation regarding social distancing, instructional packets will be mailed to your address that we currently have on file so you don’t have to come to the schools to pick them up.  If you DO NOT have the Internet and will need a packet in place of online instruction, please communicate that need to us in one of three options:  You may call 937-773-4321 ext. 6101 or 6601, email:  [email protected] or [email protected] or complete this quick form before Monday, March 23 at 4:00 PM:  https://forms.gle/WBFhPt8zALeKvkPB9 You will need to provide your child’s first and last name, the building of attendance, and Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies teachers’ names.  We will get instructional packets in the mail to you based on what you share with us.

Resources:

The Piqua City Schools administrative team is working hard to provide you with excellent resources that will assist you at home.  We will be providing a new page on our website that will have many things to help you.  When this new webpage is ready, I will send the information through School Messenger so you are aware.

Contact Information:

The best place to get accurate information is to contact us directly.  We do not monitor social media for questions as it is too large to manage.

You may email your child’s teacher or building administrator and they will be happy to assist you.  School buildings and the Board of Education Office are closed for visitors.  You can e-mail the Board of Education Office anytime at [email protected] or call the Board of Education Office at 937-773-4321.  We will check phone messages as often as possible.  You can access all district department contact information on our website as well.  Please feel free to reach out to us so we can assist you as needed.

Thank you for your tremendous support at home.  We value this partnership with you to continue your child’s education during this state-wide school shut down.

Sincerely,
Dwayne A. Thompson
